City sweat on Whittingham's fitness

Whittingham picked up a groin strain against W.B.A. in midweek seeing replaced in the first half.

"Whittingham has a groin injury," said Cardiff manager Jones.

"We cannot tell whether he will be available for Saturday's visit of Barnsley."

Former England under-21 left-winger Whittingham has undergone a scan and is rated at 50/50.

With Joe Ledley out for the rest of the season after hip surgery and Steve McPhail out for a few weeks with cracked ribs Dave Jones will look to patch up his struggling midfield and get them back on the pitch on Saturday.

Gavin Rae (hamstring), Darcy Blake (calf) and Aaron Wildig are also struggling but are all expected to be fit to play.

Jones initially feared striker Jay Bothroyd pulled a hamstring in the 1-1 draw with high-flying West Brom but the problem was later diagnosed with cramp and is expected to start against Barnsley.
