City to make double swoop?

Cardiff City were today ready to swoop for 2 major signings – a striker and a defender from mainland Europe.

Manager Lennie Lawrence has lined up a Polish international defender and the bluebirds have applied for a work permit. The player is out of contract and keen to join the Bluebirds, although he can’t fly until the work permit has been granted. He has not played in the UK before.

The second signing is an experienced target man from a club in one of the top two divisions. Lawrence will spend just under 1M on the player, yet unnamed, to bring him in as cover for the injured Peter Thorne.

The chase for a target man has been going on for weeks and Lawrence has insisted on keeping the names of the players under wraps until the deals are completed.

"We are in negotiations with a Polish international but that is one of several deals that are ongoing” said Lawrence

“We will bring in the new players as quickly as possible”

The fee being paid for the striker means interest in Doherty, Kitson and Monkhouse will be put on hold.

Rumour is that the Polish player is Jacek Bak. Nothing confirmed though, and that's how it should be. We will know when the players are signed 100% to Cardiff City
