This football lark is easy. Sit at home, see the team (Sheff Utd) above you lose at home (and in a Steel City derby), and watch as you climb the table.
Sheffield Utd were above City courtesy of scoring one more goal, our goal difference was exactly the same. But the 2 - 1 win by Sheffield Wednesday at Bramall Lane meant Utd's goal difference went down by one and that meant Cardiff moved into 4th.
The afternoon got better as none of the other sides in the top 6 won. Wolves lost 2 - 1 Coventry, the drama went to the final seconds when Wolves missed a 94th minute penalty. Cardiff have three games in hand on Wolves with the leaders 12 points ahead. Wolves face an away trip to Burnley next week. Then they are at home to Cardiff, that is our next league game.
Birmingham and Burnley drew with each other. Reading and Preston likewise.
The movers in the division were both of our local rivals. Swansea (3 - 0 winners at home over Ipswich) and Bristol City (2 - 1 winners away at Norwich) have moved into 7th and 8th place respectively. Cardiff have two games in hand over both teams at the moment.
With City not playing a league game until the Feb 22nd encounter at Wolves the other teams are all playing again at least once before then. When we kick off in that game we will have 4 games in hand on Wolves, 3 on Reading, 4 on Birmingham, 4 on Sheff Utd and 5 on Preston.
