City v Ipswich. Match preview

Last updated : 15 March 2005 By Michael Morris
City face the Tractor Boys of Ipswich tonight in a game neither team can afford to lose. City need the points to stay ahead of the dreaded drop zone while Ipswich face getting left behind as Sunderland and Wigan push towards automatic promotion.

Ipswich have been a bit hit and miss in recent weeks. On Feb 12th they were 5 points clear at the top but the last month saw a draw at Preston followed by three defeats inc one at Wigan. They turned the corner last Saturday with a 6 - 0 home hammering of Nottingham Forest, a result that also benefitted Cardiff City.

Ipswich's 4 points from 15 has allowed Sunderland and Wigan to move ahead and now Ipswich are three points behind the top two.

City need points at the other end of the table. Crucially we must keep the gap over Gillingham who sit in 22nd place. The Gills are at home to Stoke tonight. With the bottom of the table so tight there could be big swings in either direction. City could be as high as 16th tonight with a win and good fortune elsewhere or we could be join 22nd level with the Gills if it all goes wrong.

City are likely to field the same team as Saturday.

Alexander, Weston, Gabbidon, Collins, Barker, McAnuff, Inamoto, Ledley, Langley, Jerome, Bullock.

Subs: Margetson, Williams, Vidmar, Koskela, Fleetwood.

Ipswich could be without Jim Magilton. The Ipswich captian has a calf injury. Their main threat will come from forwards Shefki Kuqi and Darren Bent. The pair have over 30 goals between them this season. Look out for Tommy Miller as well, the midfielder has scored 11 times this season.

James Collins and Daniel Gabbidon will need to be on top form as we try to keep out the Divisions highest scorers.
