City v Leicester. Early team news

Last updated : 18 December 2009 By Michael Morris

The Manchester City man was thought to have suffered ligament damage in the win over Middlesbrough but a scan revealed otherwise and he could yet face the Foxes.

But Riccardo Scimeca will not play after announcing his retirement from football on Thursday.

Full-back Kevin McNaughton (calf) and midfielder Peter Whittingham (groin) have both trained and could play.

Defender Gabor Gypes comes back into the reckoning, while Joe Ledley (hip) will continue to play through the pain barrier.

Defender Miguel Comminges faces two months on the sidelines nursing a detached ligament. Midfielder Stephen McPhail remains unavailable until the new year as he undergoes treatment for cancer.

Swiss defender Bruno Berner is a doubt for Leicester ahead of the trip to Wales.

The full-back had to be substituted during the second half of last weekend's home win over Sheffield Wednesday with a calf injury.

Tests have showed no serious damage and Berner could retain his place in the side. On-loan Manchester City defender Ryan McGivern - Berner's replacement against the Owls - will continue to deputise should he not make it.

One player who will definitely miss out is Martyn Waghorn. The on-loan Sunderland striker serves the second of a three-match ban after the club decided not to appeal against the red card he received during the home defeat to Bristol City 10 days ago.
