City v Peterborough. Match Preview

By Michael Morris
Tuesday, 9th February 2010
Jay Bothroyd is 50/50 to line up against struggling Peterborough at Cardiff City Stadium as Cardiff look to get their play-off charge back on track.

The striker was forced off after 30 minutes of Friday's 5-1 hammering at leaders Newcastle nursing a dead leg and will receive more treatment on Monday before undergoing a fitness test on Tuesday.

Should he not make it then it will be another blow to an injury-hit Bluebirds squad already missing captain Mark Hudson (ankle) and influential midfielders Gavin Rae (hamstring) and Joe Ledley (hips).

Hudson will have an operation to repair his ruptured tendon on Tuesday, Rae is looking at another two weeks on the sidelines while Ledley will have the second of his two hip operations next week. Forwards Josh Magennis (broken fibula) and Kelvin Etuhu (ankle) also remain out.

After spending three months out, Stephen McPhail's return was one of the only bright moments on Tyneside and he will again be hoping for involvement, but whether he can handle two starts in the space of five days is a different matter.

Peterborough utility man Charlie Lee is a fitness doubt ahead of the game.

Lee - who can play anywhere along the back four - started in central midfield in the 1-0 win over QPR on Saturday as new manager Jim Gannon changed the system to 3-5-2 but came off with a dead leg at half-time.

Gannon is hopeful that the former Tottenham trainee will still be fit to start in Wales but Josh Simpson and Lee Frecklington are both options to replace him if rgequired.

Transfer-listed striker Aaron Mclean was recalled to the starting line-up on Saturday and responded with the winner so should continue, while captain George Boyd will again be used in a free role behind Mclean and Craig Mackail-Smith.

Defender Gabriel Zakuani remains the only other absentee for Gannon as he recovers from a groin injury.
