'Costco' set for flagship store at new Ninian development

The announcement of the first companies for the development will assure fans that at last there could be progress for the stadium that is hoped will be open for the 2006 / 07 season.

Costco have announced that they wil initially employ 170 people when they open in 2006.

A GIANT American company has announced it is opening a flagship store on the retail park being developed alongside Cardiff City's proposed 30,000-seater stadium.

Costco, which is a cash and carry based warehouse operator, is one of the first stores to be revealed on the site.

Discount clothes operator Matalan, which already has a store in Newport Road, has also signed up for the Leckwith scheme.

Six new retail planning applications for the site were submitted to Cardiff council this week and are likely to go before the city's planning committee next month. The go-ahead for the retail park development is key to the funding of the long-awaited stadium.
