City expect to get Peter Whittingham to sign this week and then hope to secure the likes of Jay Bothroyd and Chris Burke.
Dave Jones told the official website www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk, "We're as close as we can be with a lot of the others on our list of players out of contract next summer. We've spoken to their agents and have put the deals to them and are waiting on some replies.
"We're a long, long way down the line now, in keeping with the original plan in the summer of bringing new faces in and then working on our current player contract talks. It illustrates that we've come a long way in a very short space of time. The fans have to be overjoyed that we've kept the players we wanted to keep, which shows the division a signal of our intent."
