David Giles gives his thoughts on the City squad

"You have got to be ruthless as a football manager - look at what John Toshack did when he was at Swansea.

"Every time Swansea went up Tosh got rid of a load of players and then brought a load of new players in. There is no room for sentiment in football."

"If a manager wants to take his club up the divisions then he has got to keep changing the players he has got because some of them won't be good enough for the next level.

"A manager has got to be ruthless and I am sure Lennie knows that."

"I don't see why Cardiff can't challenge in the First Division with three new quality players in the side.

"I think they need someone at left-back - I've not been impressed with Croft or Chris Barker in that role this season.

"They also need someone in midfield like Paul Merson who can beat players and supply passes to the forwards.

"They also have to sign a top-class striker because Peter Thorne has not scored enough goals in my opinion.

"I think someone like Teddy Sheringham would do a great job for Cardiff. There is no one better at holding the ball and leading the line than Sheringham."

"I might be accused of being too gentle on one or two of the Cardiff players but they have to be given the benefit of the doubt.

"Remember, playing at a better level with - and against - better players might suit some of the Cardiff players because the Second Division is largely kick and rush.

"But I don't see any role at Cardiff for Hamilton and Maxwell and I think Bonner has found his level in the Second Division.

"I'm sure Fortune-West will be on his way, Fan Zhiyi has been a poor signing and I don't think Croft is good enough.

"Even though he scored a great goal in the play-off final I've been disappointed with Campbell this season. Although, in fairness, to him he's had injury problems. He did well when he first came to the club but he's not repeated that this season when he's played.

"It would break my heart but I would also let Leggy go. I think he has been a great servant for Cardiff and done a great job for the club, but Lennie has got to be ruthless.

"Leggy won't be top of Lennie's list to play week in, week out. He should finish his career gracefully with a Second or Third Division side.

"Gordon is another player I would try and move on. Cardiff are in the First Division and, with all respect to Gavin, they need better strikers than him.

"He is far too injury prone for someone of his young age."
