Decade by Decade

From a points-per-game standpoint, that is. Other decades, like the '20s and the '50s, might have seen City better placed in the league pyramid, but in terms of wins and losses and points per game, no full decade compares to the first decade of the new century.

In truth, the '40s were City's best decade when it comes to points per game, but the club played only three and a half seasons that decade
due to the war.

Here are the figures, decade by decade, with the decades ordered according to points-per-game average (best decade first):

'40s - 76 wins, 35 draws, and 39 losses. A total of 187 points from
150 games (based on the two-points-for- a-win system in place at the time). That'd be a total of 263 points had the system awarded three points for a win then. Bottom line: 1.25 points per game (with two points for a win), 1.75 ppg (with three points for a win).

'00s - 182 wins, 139 draws, and 139 losses. A total of 685 points
from 460 games (three-point system) or 503 points (two-point system). Points per game: 1.09 (two-point system), 1.49 (three-point system).

'20s - 167 wins, 94 draws, and 141 losses. A total of 428 points
from 402 games (two-point system) or 595 points (three-point system). Points per game: 1.06 (two-point system), 1.48 (three-point system).

'50s - 160 wins, 103 draw, and 157 losses. 423 points from 420 games (two-point system) or 583 points (three-point system). Points per game: 1.01 (two points), 1.39 (three points).

'90s - 152 wins, 137 draws, and 165 losses. 593 points from 454 games (three-point) or 441 points (two-point). Points per game: 0.97 (two points), 1.31 (three points).

'60s - 146 wins, 106 draws and 169 losses. 398 points from 421 games
(two-point) or 544 points (three-point) . Points per game: 0.95 (two points), 1.29 (three points).

'80s - 152 wins, 108 draws and 178 losses. 412 points from 438 games (two-point) or 564 points (three-point) . Points per game: 0.94 (two points), 1.29 (three points).

'70s - 136 wins, 125 draws and 161 losses. 397 points from 422 games
(two-point) or 533 points (three-point) . Points per game: 0.94 (two points), 1.26 (three points).

'30s - 127 wins, 83 draws, and 189 losses. 337 points from 399 games (two-point) or 464 points (three-point) . Points per game: 0.84 (two points), 1.16 (three points).
