Demolition uncovers forgotten memories

History revealed
Well, it's been falling down for years but now it's being demolished. The diggers and heavy equipment are in and already the Grandstand is resembling a wreck and today the Grange End was pulled down.

A little piece of history was revealed when the cladding came off the front of the Grandstand. The brickwork of the original Grandstand came to light and with it the old painted "Ninian Park - Cardiff City AFC" artwork.

The wings of the grandstand (Blocks A, B, E and F) were added in 1973. Now the whole lot is coming down at a rapid rate. The main Grandstand structure will be brought down in a control demolition during the next week or so. I understand it's being filmed by the BBC and the stand will be "pulled" onto the pitch area. The floodlights at some stage will come down the same way.

Grange Gone
As mentioned above the Grange End has gone already.

There will be some emotional moments on Saturday when thousands walk past the carcass of Ninian Park on the way into our new home.

Those of us lucky enough to have grown up with Ninian Park will always have memories. Loads of pictures too. The place will never be forgotten. I'm all for progress though and love our new home and my new seat.

Ninian Park RIP.
