Doherty set for City move?

Lennie Lawrences's chase for Gary Doherty may soon be over. It's suggested in the Wales on Sunday today that he will sign for Cardiff on Monday. Lennie Lawrence was saying nothing but City skipper Graham Kavanagh told the paper

"I think this win at Forest might persuade Gary that we are a club worth joining.

"I think Doherty coming to City would be a boost for Gareth Whalley, Willie Boland, Alan Lee and myself. We might see the Republic of Ireland boss Brian Kerr coming to see us play that much more.

"I still have international ambition. I gained three caps for my country under Mick McCarthy but I'm so keen to give it another go for Ireland. I know Willie feels the same way as me."

Doherty played for Spurs in the opening day defeat at Birmingham as the Londoners were short on defenders. It was thought that Doherty would remain at White Hart Lane until Glenn Hoddle had players returned from injury. With Ledley King and Dean Richards both starting yesterday as Tottenham beat Leeds Utd the door may now be open for Doherty to move to South Wales.
