Earnie 100 Ipswich 3. The Tractor Boys have the biggest smile

Bloody football. For a change today I went into town pre match. The kids were due a treat so we lunched alongside guitars and gold discs from the worlds biggest rock stars in the Hard Rock Cafe in St Mary St.

A superb lunch that included burgers, ribs, coke and beer was followed by the short train ride to Ninian Park.

A perfect Saturday until 3:00pm.

Then Ipswich ruined the party. City were on the back foot from the kick off. Joe Royle's men were pacy and direct, not in a long ball way but in a piercing quick style of football that blew City apart. Usually we dominate at home, we have the possession and dictate the game but the Tractor Boys ploughed on and put City to the sword.

They were rightly awarded a penalty after Bonner fouled and it was despatched by Miller. Then slack marking from a corner saw Santos make it 2 - 0. The corner should never have been given but it was.

Rob Earnshaw scored from a penalty in the 58th minute. It was his 100th Cardiff City goal. A huge moment for the 22 year old but his actions said it all, no somersault, no special celebration just the collection of the ball from the net and returning it to the centre circle to keep the game going.

City were back in it at this stage but couldn't get it right.

I'm not being bitter when I say the ref was poor. He was awful. The linesmen no better.

The killer blow came from another corner. City failed to clear and Chris Bart Williams happily shot into an unguarded net on 82 mins.

City pushed again, Thorne headed in a Robinson cross and there was still several mins to go. It never came off though and overall the best team won.

There was a real threat that the game could have been abandoned. Just before half time all power was lost. The lights in the stands went out and so did the floodlights. It was light enough to make half time but it took some electrical work to get the lights back on again. There has been talk that a full evacuation from Ninian Park was only seconds away.

I can only think that the sparky in charge was an Ipswich fan as a City supporter would have been happy to see the game called off with the Bluebirds 2 - 0 down.
