Earnie or Campbell? Wigan preview.

The record equalling league goalscorer has not scored in the last 6 games and after Tuesdays game at Bristol Lennie said the player looked "tired and jaded".

The City boss has not made up his mind yet and will decide on Saturday whether to play Earnie or let him have a start on the bench and give the fit again Andy Campbell a run out. Campbell has scored three times in the last two reserve team games and looked sharp when he came on late in the Bristol City game.

An Earnie goal to break his record and earn a 1 - 0 win would be perfect, whether he gets it from the start or off the bench. City need to win to keep any hopes of automatic promotion alive and then it depends on QPR winning as well. The most crucial is a point to ensure we make the play offs.

City fans are unlikely to see Alan Mahon play again, Mahon is available for tomorrow, it would be his last game but Lennie is trying to shape a team for the play offs if needed and Mahon will not be part of those plans.

Wigan come to Cardiff as Champions, they have their place booked in Division 1 for next season. They also come to Cardiff under strength, injuries keep out top scorers Nathan Ellington and Andy Liddel, the pair have 37 goals between them. Also out is Jason De Vos, he's waded in with 8 crucial goals this season as well. Paul Jewell has drafted four youth players into the squad.

There has been talk about Lennie changing the system, maybe using three centre backs. Lennie would have a choice between Prior, Gabbidon, Barker, Weston, Young or Jenkins. Gareth Whalley could also start the game, if Lennie did go for wing backs then Whalley could sit in with Kav and Boland but thats harsh on Mark Bonner who's waited for his chance.

One thing for sure, Lennie has to get it right. We cannot afford to lose the game and be left sweating on a point at Crewe. Going to Crewe needing to win to earn promotion is very different from going to Crewe trying to ensure a draw.

This is City's last regulation home game. I'm hoping it will be our last home altogether, as an eternal optimist I'm not giving up on automatic promotion just yet, a win for Crewe tomorrow will end City's hope of automatic as will the Bluebirds not winning.

After last weekends shocking capitulation to Colchester and the bad feeling around the place I hope that a hopeful and supportive crowd are rewarded by a decent winning performance.
