The squad numbers were released this week and Peter Enckleman wears No.1. New signing Tom Heaton has been given the No.13 shirt but Enckleman knows he faces a battle to be the first choice keeper.

As the new season gets closer Enckleman told the Echo he glad to back in training.

"It's great to be back," he said. "You tend to think the summer break isn't long enough, but when we all get back out there training you realise how much you missed being with the lads.

"I always wanted to come back and now I know I have a fight with Tom (Heaton) for the starting place - and that's exactly how it should be.

"We will compete for one place. He's a good lad and a good player - it should be an interesting tussle.

"Cardiff are going to a new stadium and it would be great to start there in the Premiership," said Enckelman.

"And, believe me, if we have a good season we have a real good chance of going up.

"First, though, it's up to me to get hold of the starting shirt and keep it."
