End of an Era 6 aside tournament

For most of those taking part it will have been their first time on the playing surface let alone playing on it. The tournament has been running over three nights this week with dozens of teams competeing to win a place in Sunday's finals.

I was privilidged enough to be part of a team that played on Thursday evening. Unfortunately despite our best efforts we failed to make it through to Sunday but we have the honour of saying we played at Ninian Park.

I was part of the 1927 Club squad that entered two teams. The full squad is pictured below.

The pitch was split into four mini pitches with games lasting 15 mins (we played three games, some teams played four - depending on the size of the mini league group). It was competetive and hard work but rewarding. Congratulations to the teams that made it through and good luck to those who play on Sunday.

As I was in goal I wasn't able to score at Ninian Park but I was able to prevent a few from going in. There was no disgrace in losing our games as our combined age must have been double all the teams we were playing.

It was something the club should have done every close season, I would certainly hope they do something similar in the new stadium. Quite literally hundreds of fans had their chance this week to play at their club stadium. A great honour and something that won't be forgotten by those who took part.

Erm, yes that's me in action.

The sun shines for one of the last times on a match at Ninian Park.
