Former defenders make exotic moves

Roger Johnson has signed to play for FC Pune City under coach David Platt. Johnson played for City in the 2008 FA Cup final.

Johnson said he is looking forward to his first stint outside of England.

"I am excited to be a part of FC Pune City’s ambitious plans to bring home the Indian Super League title this season. Along side the head coach David Platt and other top signings I hope to share my experience with the boys in the side and make a difference."

Danny Gabbidon on the otherhand has joined Panteg in Welsh League Division 3 The former Wales international and Premier league defender will be able to play alongside his brother.

A Panteg statement read: “We have no doubt this signing will do great things for football in our local area and hopefully encourage more young footballers to join our affiliated youth section at Griffithstown AFC and our Under 18 side.

“Danny will be on hand to pass on his considerable knowledge to not just the youth section but also to our senior sides and management who are looking forward to Danny’s involvement immensely.”

Due to his media commitments, Gabbidon won't be available for the first few weeks of the new season, though the club hope his signing will help drive them on to bigger and better things.

“We look forward to having Danny as often as possible to help us achieve our goals for this coming season,” the Panteg statement continued.

“We are extremely proud Danny has come on board with us and we are sure he will make a great impact on and off the pitch.”
