Gabbidon set to start for Wales

Daniel Gabbidon looks certain to start next Saturdays Euro Championship qualifier when Wales take on Finland in Helsinki.

Robert Page has dropped out of the squad with injury and it’s expected that Gabbidon will line up, as he did against Croatia, with Andy Melville as the centre back pairing. Both players were outstanding that night as Wales drew 1 – 1 after a late error from Paul Jones gifted the Croatians an equaliser.

Robert Earnshaw is expected to be on the bench if Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy is fit. Mark Hughes has always said that Bellamy would be first choice but Earnshaw has played the last two games and has gained valuable experience at international level and will step in if selected if Bellamy is not fit.

Rhys Weston will also be with the Wales party in Helsinki and may get a place on the bench.

Also on international duty is Neil Alexander. He will be in the Faroe Islands with Scotland on the same day.

Good luck to all our “boys” who are representing their countries.
