Gregan saga rumbles on

There seems to be more information between the newpapers that between the clubs regarding a possible transfer for Sean Gregan.

Lennie appears to be waiting for a never coming phone call from West Brom, the Baggies appear to be putting a high price on Gregan's head even though he can leave for free next summer and there are cloak and dagger scenario's with other clubs named as possible rivals to City for Gregans signature which to the cynic is a ploy to keep the price up.

I'm behind Lennie from that point, I don't want to see us ripped off by West Brom. I'm not so sure I would have wanted this to have dragged on through the summer and into the start of the season though. It's Gregan I feel sorry for. He stuck at a club that doesn't want him. If he does make the move to Ninian Park the expectation that will sit on his shoulders will be immense after the very public dealings of the potential transfer so far.

Gregan himself said

"As things stand at the moment I'm stuck. It's obvious I'm not required at West Brom but I think I will be at Albion for some time. I've a year left on my contract but I don't want to be sitting around at games watching the weeks go by."

As for Lennie,

"There's a possibility we might be priced out of it as far as Gregan is concerned," Lawrence told the Western Mail.

"This is something I'm becoming more and more conscious off. I've read bits and pieces about what price West Brom might be asking for Gregan. If they are right then I won't be doing the deal. I'm not losing patience with this one. Gary Megson has indicated to me that they are prepared to let Gregan go.

"This has to be ratified by other people at the club. Then we have to negotiate a price. We know the boy wants to come here but we have to agree a price. We are not paying over the odds. I'm hopeful something can be done - but I know where I stand with this. If it's miles away from where West Brom stand then it's not going to happen.

"That may not be the end of it. We might come back for Gregan in three months, six months or a even year. He's a player I admire and I want to sign him. But it might be something that's put aside for some time because of the price."

"If he goes somewhere else then he goes somewhere else. I've got a little bit of money to spend and I will spend it somewhere else. I've got another midfielder in mind and this particular deal is ready to go. I'm not saying who the player is but he's an entirely different type of player to Gregan."

Cue more rumours as to who this other midfielder could be?
