Gunter proud after incredible week

He'd had 10 appearances this season (league and cup) with 4 of them off the bench before the international break. Then the Newport born full back, in the space of 8 days, plays three full games.

Two of them for John Toshack's Wales side against Ireland at the Millennium Stadium and against Germany in Frankfurt.

Both matches were drawn with Gunter getting rave reviews. His week was topped off with a starting place for City against Ipswich.

"Up until recently I could hardly get a game and then all this in the space of a week," said Gunter.

"It has been fantastic. I was pleased with the Ireland game and even more pleased with my performance in Germany. To get the chance to play for Cardiff in a big game like this has just been great.

"It has been up and down this season for me, I have been in and out. I did really want to push on this year and maybe it has taken a little longer than I hoped.

"After the week I have had, I have hopefully got the shirt at Cardiff and I just need to keep playing well.

"After the Wales games I said I hoped it showed people I was ready if given the opportunity. I really just need to keep working hard in training now and show I am ready now to play, week in and week out.

"I think when I get home and reflect on what has happened I will feel quite a bit of pride, to be honest."
