Claims that the club was £24m in debt and is not allowed to buy anymore players prompted many questions from City fans anxious to know the position. It was also said that City's star players would have to be sold.

An initial statement from the club read

"None of our leading players will be leaving. How on earth could we sell out a new stadium if we sell players like Earnshaw and Gabbidon?

"We have solid finances and a solid business plan. Our borrowing is where we expected it to be at this stage of our development. There are no surprises.

"We know exactly where we are and exactly where we are going."

Sam Hammam has since been speaking to Cardiff City World on the official website.

"This is a very powerful club and in an excellent financial situation. Whatever the clubs debt is is nobody elses business, all I can tell you is is that I am very happy at the whatever the level debt we have.

Sam goes onto explain that City have invested millions in the squad and the ground without having sold any players and talks about the new stadium and about players we have bid for but missed out on inc Nigel Reo Coker.
