Hammam targets European dream

SAM Hammam is imploring the Football Association of Wales to shove open the door to European soccer.

Cardiff City owner Hammam wants European Champions League football for his Bluebirds - and believes the FAW can make it possible.

He wants to expand the City squad by six or seven players and effectively have two separate first teams - one in the English pyramid system and eventually in the Premier League - with another in the Welsh Premiership.

Hammam had talks with FAW officials in Cardiff yesterday and top of his agenda was European football.

"Our target is to be playing right at the top of the Premier League and in Europe," he said.

"If we are not there when we have a new stadium then we are underachieving.

"But if we win the League, FA Cup and the League Cup we still can't play in Europe - because we are registered with the FAW.
