Have we missed Gabbidon? John Heyda takes a statistical look.

Last updated : 31 December 2002 By Michael Morris
Gabbidon started and went the distance in each of City's first 17
league games. In the 18th game, at Barnsley, he got hurt and had to
come out at the 45-minute mark. He hasn't played since.

Going into that Barnsley game City were a startlingly good 11-4-2 and
held first place with 37 points, one ahead of Oldham, two ahead of
Wigan, and four ahead of Bristol City. In their first 17 games City
had GF/GA figures of 28/12 for a goal difference of +16. Since then,
City have dipped to four wins and three losses with GF/GA figures of
13/8 for a +5.

Over the first 17 games City piled up 37 points for a smart 2.18
points per match. In the last seven the rate has dropped to 1.71.
Comparing these rates shows that over the last seven games City's
points-per-match figure had dropped 22%.

Over the first 17 games City conceded 0.71 goals per match. In the
last seven the rate has been 1.14. Comparing these rates shows that
over the last seven games City's goals-per-match conceded average has gone up 65%.

To summarise John's findings since Gabbidon has been out of the side we've dropped our points average per match but most alarming in the amount of goals per match conceded. 2 defeats from 17 games with Gabbidon, 3 defeats from 7 without.

Thanks for that John. Daniel Gabbidon. Come back soon.
