HMRC date means transfer embargo

CEO Gethin Jenkins re-itereated what he said to the News of the World that the money owed to the tax man should be paid this week and the petition removed.

"As is normal procedure, if PAYE isn't paid then HMRC are fully entitled to lodge a petition," said Jenkins.

"Cardiff City Football Club fully expect to pay monies owed in the forthcoming week, following which the petition will naturally be withdrawn.

"This hurdle all forms part of the ongoing process of getting the club on a sound business and financial footing."

The issuing of the petition sees the club placed under another transfer embargo. Dave Jones has made one addition to his squad, Tom Heaton from Man Utd, but now has to wait until the lastest tax issue is cleared up. City play their first pre season game on Thursday at Bath City.

It seems that players have been asked to defer bonus payments and appearance money until the end of the season to help the club in the short term. A further complication will be trying to tie down key players like Whittingham and Bothroyd to new contracts as they enter their final year.

After investing £6m TG and Vincent Tan will need to put in more money to keep the club running but reading between the lines I think they are expecting the other shareholders to follow suit.

While the club attempt to get themselves on a sound financial footing the nature of the business means that it's customer base, the thousands and thousands of fans, are left wondering just what an earth is going on.

Makes you realise just what an opportunity was missed at Wembley in May. All of this could have been so different.
