Ian Holloway. Why he must hate City and Earnie.

Step forward Ian Holloway, currently QPR manager, who will have more reason than most to dread any match against Cardiff City.

Holloway's record vs The Bluebirds so far reads:
P: 6 W: 1 D: 2 L: 3 F: 5 A: 13

The record isn't the worst but each of those games lost have been personally significant for Holloway and his teams.

Friday night's Robert Earnshaw inspired 0-4 home disaster to the Bluebirds was the latest bodyblow inflicted on Holloway by Cardiff City. People who thought it is rare for QPR to lose that badly at home are right, it's their worst revserse at Loftus Road for nearly 9 years.

Until then, Holloway must have thought his luck was changing against City after they came from behind to beat City at Loftus Road last season and then got a fully deserved draw at Ninian Park at a time when Cardiff City were flying under Lennie's control.

That was scant Holloway compensation for 2000/2001 season where Earnie hit a fantastic hat-trick as 3rd Division Cardiff embarrassingly fired Holloway's higher division opponents, Bristol Rovers out of the FA Cup 5-1 in a live Sky tv game at Ninian Park. (Match report here)

Earnie has 4 career hat-tricks so far, two have been against Ian Holloway teams!!

Season 1999/2000 was a Holloway disaster too. Cardiff, already relegated back to Div 3, faced Bristol Rovers needing just a draw at Ninian Park in the final league game of the season to get into the play-offs for a Division 1 place.

On the day, City were magnificent. Rovers were comprenhensively outplayed, barely mustered a shot and lucky to get away from Ninian with a 1-0 defeat. Bristol Rovers have never been as high in the league since that day and are still in decline in Division Three.

Mind you, it could equally be argued that Rovers also missed that play-off place due to a sublime late Danny Hill equaliser at the Memorial Ground earlier in the season too!

So, our message to Ian Holloway is .... "can we play you ever week"???
