CARDIFF CITY full-back Gary Croft scored "the second best goal of my career" to sink Notts County at Meadow Lane on Saturday - and the versatile defender said the Second Division outfit can emulate his former club Blackburn Rovers.

Croft's stunning 25-yard strike after 19 minutes was enough to give City a 1-0 win which leaves them sharing the leadership of Division Two with QPR, Wigan and Oldham.

"It was nice to get a goal," said Croft, a free transfer from Ipswich Town during the summer.

"The crowd sometimes shout at me to have a shot. Maybe I should do it more often.".........Full story

HELPING Cardiff City to the top of the Second Division is not the only motivation for Neil Alexander to keep another clean sheet at Plymouth Argyle tonight. The Edinburgh-born goalkeeper is also desperate to win his first full international cap and hopes his chance will come when Scotland face Canada in a friendly at Hampden Park on October 15.

Alexander, who has remained first-choice 'keeper at Ninian Park despite the arrival of Martyn Margetson in the summer, knows Scotland manager Berti Vogts will be keeping a close eye on his performances for the Bluebirds. And, having kept two clean sheets over the past week, Alexander knows his chances of making his full international debut will be further enhanced if he can prevent his goal being breached at Home Park and again at the weekend.

"Scotland will be keeping an eye on Cardiff's results and hopefully noting how many clean sheets I'm keeping," said the 24-year-old shot-stopper.....Full story
