The City skipper has been in fine form for the Bluebirds and could be close to a recall.

Lennie Lawrence has been in contact with Irish boss Brian Kerr

"I spoke to Brian about Kavanagh when our striker Alan Lee was injured in training with the Republic, and I used that opportunity to put forward my player's case.

"Graham Kavanagh is at the peak of his powers and in my opinion, could play in the Premiership on his current form. I don't say that lightly.

"If Graham doesn't get into the Irish squad now, then I honestly believe he never will."

Kerr will name in squad at midday on Thursday. Alan Lee's knee injury will keep him out of the squad.
