Jenkins completes City move today

Last updated : 05 February 2003 By Michael Morris
Huddersfield have seen sense that the only way they are going to save any money on Steve Jenkins is by allowing him to leave for free. The Terriers have not paid the players wages in full so he is entitled to resign from his contract, Hudersfield threatened to pay him upto date and then demand a fee from Cardiff. The Bluebirds would take on the player unless he could move for nothing so Huddersfield had to either let him go or cut their noses off to spite their face and keep the player on the books until the end of his contract in the summer. They could not afford to keep him so have allowed him to leave.

Lennie told the Western Mail last night

"We've agreed terms and we've taken Steve's contract on until the end of the season. He's a good professional and he will be good cover for us. When he gets his chance it's up to him. I think it's the right move for him. If I didn't think he would be with us next season I would only have taken him on loan. But I intend to take Steve on for next season."

Jenkins joins initially until the end of the season but as Lennie says he's in his plans for next season as well. The player will be unveiled at Ninian Park this morning as a Cardiff City player.

With Mark Delaney picking up ligament damage Cardiff now have two right backs in Jenkins and Weston vying for a chance under Mark Hughes.

Welcome to Ninian Park.
