He came off the bench on 65 mins and by the 70th minute was heading for an early bath.

He was alledged to have raised his arms against Karl Duguid.

Manager Steve Bruce is considering an appeal against the automatic three match ban.

"I've just seen it on the tv and it's very harsh," said the Blues boss.

"And to be fair to big Wayne Brown, he has run up to the referee and said to him that it wasn't a sending off.

"The guy has fouled him and he has tried to push him away rather than elbow him.

"He is distraught. He is only a young kid on his home debut in front of 25,000 people so you can imagine how he feels tonight.

"I have worked with him for three weeks and there isn't a malicious bone in his body.

"We can appeal and we will look at that."

Birmingham went on to win the game against Colchester 2 - 1.
