Jones and Adkins ready to kick off new season

"This is a fresh start, a new era for this football club, it's like a new club if you like," said Jones in the Echo.

"If people are going to keep looking back you will never move forward.

"As a group of people, I think we have learnt a lot from last season, you learn from your disappointments and, if we don't, we will never push on.

"Four years ago there was no expectation level at this club, the only expectation level was to survive as football club.

"People dreamed about being in the Premiership, but this club was a million miles away then.

"But in Wales probably, without upsetting Swansea City, we are looked upon as the big club.

"Now the expectation levels are closer to being a reality it could happen.

"While we will never be favourites because we keep selling our best players, we have become one of the top sides in the Championship - and that does not happen overnight.

"If we beat Scunthorpe everybody will think everything is hunky-dory," he continued.

"If we lose, people will say 'here we go again'.

"In the four years I have been here we have won the first game and lost the first game.

"But what people must remember is there are 45 games to go after the first one.

"Whatever happens against Scunthorpe is not going to dictate what the season is going to be.

And the Scunthorpe opinion.

"It will be a fantastic game on Saturday. We're going down to Cardiff and a brand new stadium, and it will be a great game for this football club. Adkins told the official Scunthorpe website.

"It will be tough, like all matches are. But, believe me, we're going to go out and fight, scrap and play our football the right way.

"It's going to be a party atmosphere from Cardiff's point of view. They will desperately be wanting to get off to a good start in their new stadium.

"The bookies have us down to be beaten, so we go down there with everything stacked against us.

"We've had a fantastic summer. A short period of time has passed since those great promotion celebrations at Wembley.

"We go to Cardiff this weekend and are really looking forward to a fantastic campaign in the Championship.
