Jones and Cardiff slam Forest comments

Dave Jones and Cardiff City have reacted angrily to Nottingham Forest claims that Peter Whittingham wants to join the Bluebirds' Championship rivals.

As report on Saturday Forest Chief Exec Mark Arthur openly claimed that they are ready to pounce for Whittingham who they say wants to play for Forest.

"We are aware he (Whittingham) is in his last year of his contract and I'm sure they're not in a financial position where they can afford to let that run down," said Arthur.

"We understand he has rejected a new offer so we have to be a little bit patient and, hopefully between now and the end of August, we'll be able to bring him in.

"If not, then we'll try to bring him in either in January or at the end of the season when he is out of contract because we know he wants to come to us."

But Cardiff City have hit back. An official statement from Gethin Jenkins reads:

"I would like to thank Mr Arthur for his interest in our football club, though would suggest that he direct his attention towards internal Nottingham Forest issues and problems than any blatant public attempts to unsettle members of our playing squad.

"We have already stated that we are intent on holding on to our best players in order to remain competitive in the Championship. Positive talks continue with Peter, as they do with other members of our squad, while we concentrate on starting the 2010/11 Championship season."

Dave Jones has also had his say. The boss was fuming with the behaviour of the Forest chief exec.

"That to me is an absolute disgrace," Jones said.

"I never have a go at anybody in football, but if that's not blatant tapping up then I don't know what is.

"To come out and talk about talking to the agent and the agent's talking to the player and the player wants to come and I'll wait...if that is not unsettling a player then I don't know what is.

"Sometimes people should get on with what's going on at their club and stop worrying about what's happening at other clubs."
