"We kept our nerve and deserved the win in the end.

"Burnley are no mugs and they worked hard all through the game but as long as we kept doing the right things after we had taken the lead then I knew we would go on and win.

"We should have put the game out of sight but we had to battle and scrap and show another side to our play. You have to do that when playing against a very physical side.

"No one is going to come here and let us have our own way all the time and today we have come through a difficult test."

Steve Cotterill

"We gave it a right go today but the first half was stop-start and that was down to a poor performance form the referee," said Cotterill.

"He even booked Andy Gray for annoying him.

"Although a couple of my players were off-colour we still gave top of the table Cardiff a tough game and a 1-0 defeat doesn't tell the whole story as we certainly deserved something from this game.

"I'm delighted for my players as we were the dominant side even though there were few goalmouth incidents."
