Jones dismisses Cardiff bust-up

Dave Jones laughed off the on-pitch bust-up between Cardiff City team-mates Anthony Gerrard and David Marshall in their stalemate at Nottingham Forest. Bluebirds keeper Marshall and defender Gerrard argued in the closing stages but Jones believes their "passion" may boost Cardiff's play-off bid.

The draw at Forest means Cardiff have a six-point cushion in their bid to book a spot in the promotion play-offs.

"It just shows the passion and the desire that they've got," Jones said.

But the Bluebirds boss has warned his team against such internal disruptions as Cardiff push for the Premier League.

"It's crazy," said Jones.

"I've told them I don't want to see it, I don't care what goes on but when the adrenaline is running and everything else..."

Scotsman Marshall and centre-back Gerrard were two of Cardiff's stand-out performers but argued in the last five minutes after they collided going for a cross.

"Just shut up, get on with it and have a fight in the changing room afterwards and then we can all watch it!" Jones joked.

"Basically it's the passion, it's the desire and sometimes it overflows like it did on the pitch and nobody wants to see it and that's what I've told them but just get on with it now, it's handbags."

Cardiff beat sixth-placed Leicester City and fifth-placed Swansea City before earning a creditable 0-0 draw - Cardiff's first goalless draw in 64 games since February last year - at third-placed Forest.

Jones' men completed a healthy Easter points haul of seven points from a possible nine against three play-off promotion rivals to gives the Bluebirds a six-point cushion over Blackpool in seventh.

In their last four regular season games Cardiff face Reading at home on Saturday, Queen's Park Rangers away before Sheffield Wednesday visit the Cardiff City Stadium and Cardiff go to Derby County on the last day.

Jones believes his side are in excellent form for the run-in and he has senior players ready to come back from injury to boost their numbers.

"We're getting players back, when you look at the bench today it's full of kids, but we're getting the likes of Chris Burke, Kevin McNaughton, Peter Whittingham, Mark Hudson back," Jones said.

"So they're big players for us and if we can get them back - they've had a long enough break!

"Same as Joe Ledley who has been out a long time before starting today. There is a lot of tired bodies but hopefully a lot of fresh bodies as well.

"Everybody is in the same boat; we've all got to get players and everybody will have their injuries and everybody will have their tiredness and this is the period where it's important not to lose.

"It's a good point for us against Forest. We set up to try and win it, you saw that in the first half where we were having a go just as much as they were having a go at us.

"There were two tired teams at the end but full of commitment and desire.

"We're set up right, we've got bodies coming back and you seem to get over your niggles that little bit more, that little bit quicker when you've got players on a good run and full of confidence.

"I've got a great squad, small but great, and there's a fantastic spirit amongst them all.

"I've got nothing but admiration for them because we hung in there when we lost a lot of players.

"The people that came in, the kids and everything else, they deserve a big slap on the back.

"But we're not finished yet, we've still got a long, long way to go and we'll keep chipping away at it."
