Jones happy to sign Bellamy for 'the right reasons'

"We have been talking about this behind closed doors for a few months," said the Bluebirds boss.

"He's not lying when he says I was camped outside his house, but while that possibility was there I was always going to chase it.

"Without Manchester City's help this would never have been possible.

"I wanted to make sure Craig was coming for the right reasons, not just because his family is here but because he wants this club to achieve what we all want.

"His ambition came through from the first minute I met him.

"It has never been a case of him just wanting to see out his time here. From talking to me he knows what our ambitions are and what's expected.

"To get a player of his calibre at the age he is and taking into account what he's done in the last few years in the Premiership is a massive coup for this club.

"Moves like this just don't happen so it's credit to everyone who has worked behind the scenes."

Jones was honest enough to admit that expectations will now go through the roof at Cardiff.

He added: "No-one is shying away from the fact that the pressure will be on us now we have signed some really good players.

"But they all know our ambition. The next stage for this club is promotion and there is no point hiding from that.

"We didn't sign Craig to stay in this division, we signed him to get out of it. Hopefully then he can see out the rest of his career at a club in the Premiership."
