"I have invested in the club with both my time and now my shares, which shows I'm in this for the long haul," Jones told the Echo.

"I'm here to do a job and that job is to take this club to the Premiership. And I also have now an added interest in its future.

"What annoys me most is people start saying that I don't care about this club, that is so wrong. I'm not in it for the shares.

"I believe in what is going on here and the plans for the future. I would invest like anybody else would and there is nothing wrong with that."

Jones is expected to announce tomorrow his retained list. Sweping changes to the squad are expected with upto 17 players facing the axe.

Chairman Peter Ridsdale is delighted to see Jones investing.

"Dave has invested shares in the club. He is extremely confident in what we are trying to do here," said Ridsdale.

"It is his own personal money and that is fine by me that the manager of this club is backing our future."
