"The training ground was frozen yesterday so we were forced to move inside where we worked on set plays and it was very rewarding to see the hard work everyone put in having the desired result.

"What won us the game was a strong defensive display by our back four and our two central defenders, Cox and Darren Purse, certainly know they have been in a battle this afternoon.

"Stoke's front men were big and strong and presented a major challenge to us but the lads held firm.

"It was a solid performance all round by the team but it was still a hard-earned victory and a good three points for us".

"We missed three players out there today, not just Jason but Steve Thompson and Glenn Loovens, and we have proved today that we are not a one-man team.

"A little gap has opened up behind us in the Championship but all we can do is keep on plugging away and getting the right results."

"We had warned the players beforehand about Cooper's left foot but we still allowed him to drift inside and shoot."

On his missing striker Sanbegou Bangoura.

"I don't know what has happened to him since he left for the African Nations Cup but I do know that he turned up in Manchester this morning and I've asked to see him tomorrow."
