Jones looking to make his own history

"I have 1927 rammed down my throat every day," said Jones after seeing his side beat Middlesbrough.

"It's not a bad thing for me. It is nothing to do with me, I wasn't around.

"At the end of the day, I have always maintained that is the history of the club, put it where it belongs. It doesn't affect me in any way.

"The team that won the cup and got there, they deserve all the accolades that were given to them and are still given to them because they achieved something that was phenomenal.

"All I can do is try to make my own history within the football club, and the players have gone a long way towards doing that.

"It seems to be the year of the underdog somewhere along the line in this cup competition.

"Now that we have got there, if we went and won the FA Cup, they would be saying we won't do well in Europe.

"All we can do is keep doing our best. That's what they are paid to do.

"It's a great achievement. We were worried about going home tonight on the plane because of the high winds.

"I don't think that will have any bearing because the plane will be rocking anyway."

Meanwhile Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate knows his team blew a great oportunity.

He said: "We have to hold our hands up - Cardiff were the better side right throughout and we didn't perform on the day.

"In a strange way, the cup has been a release for us. We haven't spoken about winning it all the way through because it has just been, 'let's see how we get on'.

"With everybody going out, it suddenly dawned on us that we had a fantastic opportunity.

"Whether we froze or whether the occasion was too much, I don't know, but we didn't perform and we can have no complaints."
