The most high profile player he was after was Alan Smith of Man Utd. Since that deal fell through Jones has been trying his luck elsewhere

"Last week we had nine or 10 knock-backs from other clubs, so what we're doing is going for the cream and working our way down the list," said Jones.

"I've just got to keep knocking and knocking, keep going back to people who've said no and going back and back until we succeed."

The loan transfer window close this Tuesday before the whole transfer market opens up on Jan 1st.

There has been speculation in the press in South Wales that City are closing in on two players from the same club. A full back and a striker.

With only 48 hours or so left before the deadline we'll find ut soon enough if any new players will be in the squad before the tip to Yorkshire to face Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Chairman Peter Ridsdale has confirmed that they ae looking for players

"We're working very hard to see if we can bring in any new faces ahead of the deadline on Thursday," he told the Echo.

"But we're not prepared just to get anyone in. We're only interested in signing players who would improve the quality of the squad.

"The squad that's taken us to the top of the table this season is outstanding, and we're not going to add extra bodies just to increase the number of players on our books."
