Jones' veterans coming good

It's early days yet but after a few weeks where only Trevor Sinclair looked as if he was fit for battle, the other two old boys, Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, have started to get their fitness levels up and more importantly their eye for goal.

City have scored 7 goals in thier last three games. Fowler (4), Hasselbaink (2) and Sinclair. Now if we can get the youngsters to chip in with a few we may just be starting to go places.

"Robbie and Jimmy are always going to be under the spotlight because what they have achieved in their careers," said Jones.

"They have had a point to prove. That point is the same whether you are a 22-year-old or a 32-year-old and that is what they are setting about now.

"People talk about age as if it is a problem, but if you are fit and strong then that is enough.

"Against West Brom was the freshest I've seen Robbie, he is getting quicker and more confident.

"He was wanting to do so well before that he was beating himself up about it a bit, if things were not coming off in training or whatever.

"But I would say he is right when he says he is not totally fit yet because obviously he knows his body better than anyone.

"As for Jimmy, that goal he scored against West Brom was really good for him.

"People who say his legs have gone only have to look at that run he made right at the end of the match with five minutes left.

"Their centre-half wasn't slow and Jimmy was up at him and there is no way you could do that if your legs have gone.

"Trevor is a top professional, all three of them are actually, but Trevor is a bit of an unsung hero he just gets on with his job and doesn't always get the credit for what he brings to the team."
