Kavanagh looking for good start

Kav told the Echo

"We had a great end of season run under the new gaffer (Lawrence) after mixed fortunes during the first half of the season. And although it is important that we don't look too far in front of ourselves, we do need to get off to a good start this time around which is something we did not do last term."

There were plenty of similes as the squad joined up after their holiday. Boss Lawrence said

"Everybody seems to be fit and we're all ready to go. The days of running 10-15 miles miles and sprinting up hills are old hat now, we will build up the training gradually, so nobody gets any early strains or blisters."

Lawrence went on to say how pleased he was with the general level of fitness of the players when he arrived at the club. It's his responsibility and his squad that he must prepare for the new season.

Lennie wants to get his new signings in (hopefully Whalley and Vidmar) and get stuck into the new season.

"There are some great players here that I inhertited, apart from Andy Campbell, who I brought to the club, but it would be ludicrous to sign a load of new players for the sake of it - all the squad needs is fine tuning with two or three players."

City face their first action on Saturday July 20th when they play Merthyr at Penydarryn Park. The season kicks off on August 10th (thats only 5 weeks away) at Oldham Athletic.

Bolton Wanderers have been allocated an initial amount of 1,000 tickets for the new John Smiths Grange End (same as the Carling Grange End but a different name).

Former City loan player Chris Greenacre has joined Stoke City.
