Kav's back. The need for a new midfielder diminishes...

"We have been looking at bringing in a player," Lawrence told the Echo.

"But the peculiar complications of the deal mean it won't be done this week.

"But we have Graham Kavanagh back, while Joe Ledley was outstanding in central midfield during our win against Gillingham and Willie Boland was right back in form."

Lennie faces a selection dilemna on Saturday. Should he stick with Boland / Ledley or will Captain Kav come straight back into the team?

To drop either Boland or Ledley would be harsh on both after last Saturdays performance, personally I'd love to see Kavanagh and Ledley play together.

I think the fall guy is going to be Paul Parry. There can be no way Jerome and Thorne can be seperated and Kavanagh will surely return. I think Lennie will go for the tried and tested Kav / Boland partnership in central midfield with Ledley moving left and Parry dropping to the bench.

If I was picking the side I would play Ledley and Kavanagh together, give Ledley the Gary O'Neil role while Kav can continue to develop as the holding midfielder. Harsh on Boland but I think him and Kav are now too similar.

Another possible change is at right back. If Darren Williams is signed on a permanent basis he may start on Saturday. Otherwise Rhys Weston will start.

Williams' possible signing seems to be agreed by all parties. We know Lennie wants to sign and Mick McCarthy has confirmed he will not be offered a new contract at the Stadium of Light at the end of the season.

"The loan deal was with a view to him signing full time. The fact is that Darren is out of contract at Sunderland at the end of the season and he won't be having his contract renewed - he knows that," said McCarthy.

"The move has been made as much for Darren as anyone - he needs to find another club. They like him and I think they want to sign him."
