Kennedy slams amateur defending

He also said the Bluebirds must expect - and accept - being heavily criticised by fans over the display.

"I'm not talking to idiots," said Kennedy. "We've got intelligent fans - they can see what's going on."

Libyan-born Maltese international Bogdanovic scored in the ninth and 12th minutes, leaving Cardiff boss Dave Jones baffled as to how his defence allowed the player the space to score.

"We get done with the same ball most times and people have got to learn their lessons," said Jones.

But Kennedy was even more critical, telling BBC Sport Wales: "I can't come in here and pretend and make things up.

"With all due respect I'm not talking to idiots. We've got intelligent fans - they can see what's going on and we know they know and I'm sure we'll get slaughtered for it.

"You can't really argue with that. We've got to be big and brave and take it on the chin, take the rough with the smooth.

"We're bitterly disappointed. I think sometimes you can accept if a team comes here and turns you over, but we've handed them the game on a plate.

"It's harsh picking out individuals and stuff like that but as a team we handed them two goals, as simple as that. It was totally unacceptable and we got what we deserved, which was nothing.

"We had plenty of possession in the second half but they were 2-0 up, they were comfortable.

"We had a couple of half-chances and one cleared off the line but the game was almost over after 10 minutes.

"I still fancied us to get back in the game and get at least a draw, and with a little bit of lady luck we might have got an early goal. It might have changed the game, but after the start we gave them - it's just absolutely amateur - and we got exactly what we deserved.

"I can't come [to talk to the media] and try to gloss over it and paper over cracks. It was really, really poor from a defensive point of view."

Kennedy said Cardiff should heed the words of the Manchester United manager.

"Quite often you hear Sir Alex Ferguson say, 'It's about how you come back from these defeats,' and we have an opportunity to do that. But talking about this game, it's bitterly disappointing.

"I imagine our possession in the second half was extremely high, but I can't remember their keeper making a save.

"Whitts [Peter Whittingham] hit the post, Jay [Bothroyd] had one off the line, Chops [Michael Chopra] had a half-chance, but it's completely hypothetical, isn't it?

"It's hard to swallow, that one."
