Bothroyd weaked his hamstring after 5 mins of Saturday's 1 - 1 draw with Preston and Cardiff were grateful for Keogh popping up in the 94th minute to scored the equaliser.
"Hopefully I'll get a few games for the team if Jay is out for a while," Keogh told BBC Sport Wales afterwards.
"No-one likes to see a team-mate injured, but one person's loss is another's gain. I thought I did ok when I came on and I got a goal."
The Republic of Ireland striker arrived at the Bluebirds on a season-long loan from Wolves in August, but has had little game time as he has been behind Bothroyd, Craig Bellamy and Michael Chopra in the pecking order.
"Out of all the strikers I've had the least game time so I obviously haven't had many goals," said Keogh.
"It was good to get one, we didn't play particularly well but we created a lot of chances.
"They sat back and defended well. They dropped very deep so it was very hard to get your movement going, it was picking up scraps.
"It wasn't our day in front of goal but we kept going, it shows good character that we didn't lose. It was a good point in the end.
"I just felt relieved for the lads after we'd worked so hard to get the goal back, luckily enough the chance fell to me."
Despite Saturday's draw and a poor November, Cardiff remain second in the Championship and Keogh is convinced that their promotion push is on track.
"It's a bad run but nothing to worry about," he continued.
"Quality always shines through. Everyone has little blips but it won't be long before we're nailing teams."
