League season over, same points as last year

Of course the Main Event, the FA Cup Final is a couple of weeks away, and that has masked what again is a frustrating finish to a season where, with a little more application, we could have made the play offs. 6th place was just 6 points away.

Ledley and Parry after opening goal
It was great to see Paul Parry back in the side and his opening goal came after some good work and passing from Joe Ledley. Joe of course has already left his mark on Wembley. Paul Parry will be our main threat against Pompey and let's hope he comes away with distinction and a goal or two.

A Kevin McNaughton cross eluded the Tyke's keeper and the ball ended up in the net vis a clumsy defender to make it 2 - 0 and then Joe Ledley popped up with a third to make the scoreline more emphatic.

City fans applauded the visiting Barnsley fans at the end and then stayed in place to cheer the Cardiff City squad as they did a lap of honour around the pitch.

Just one more season at Ninian Park before moving the ever growing new stadium across the road. Maybe we can sustain a more determined challenge for promotion next season. We have hit a barrier that has seen us with near identical records in all our bar one of our Championship seasons.

2007/08 - 12th place with 64 points
2006/07 - 13th place with 64 points
2005/06 - 11th place with 60 points
2004/05 - 16th place with 54 points
2003/04 - 13th place with 65 points

Maybe though with the lack of strength in depth Dave Jones has actually performed admirably with what he had available to him. Certainly getting the the Cup Final is amazing. If we win it they will all have legendary status.

One thing is for sure, our home form has improved dramtically. It's been our away form that has let us down. No away league win in 2008. Whereas at home with have won 10 of the last 13.

Inconsistency has cost us. Forget that for now. Let's go win the FA Cup and make it the most successful season any of us have ever experienced.

Then maybe we'll push on for promotion next year and welcome it into the new stadium.
