That was in reaction to a statement from Vidmar's agent on Tuesday saying the player has agreed a new 12 month deal.
Lennie Lawrence has now admitted that talks are in progress
"We are trying to extend Tony's contract. I'd rather have kept this quiet but information leaking happens in football," Lawrence told the Western Mail
"We are close to agreeing a new contract. It's just a matter of sorting out one or two little details. We are offering Tony another year. He has been excellent for us this season."
Vidmar has played all league and cup games this season and is City's only ever present in the current campaign.
