Lennie does not want to lose players but is it too late?

"If there is a problem which has caused wages not to be paid, one of the remedies to look at is selling players. You don't have to be Einstein to realise that, but it's something that you've got to think about."

"Hopefully there will be no sales at all, unless it's a deal that would have stood up in normal circumstances. As the manager I can't reassure anything for certain, but I'm hopeful that everything will be resolved and I hope there will be no player sales.

"But it would be naive and foolish to say that they haven't been considered."

There is a fear though that these comments by Wigan boss Paul Jewel on Thursday may mean a very high profile City player being a Latic at some stage on Friday.

"I've had a busy day but it looks as though we have agreed fees with two clubs for a couple of players. Obviously there is still work to do and therefore it's not fair to name names at this stage. However, I'm pretty confident both deals will go through.

"With a bit of luck the first will be completed tomorrow morning, while the other should be wrapped up early next week. It's great news if we can get these deals done as we know we need to strengthen and I feel that these to players will be good additions for us."

It's speculation at the time of writing (0100 hrs Friday) but we may be needing a new captain for Saturdays match.
