Lennie once on end of Cardiff giant killing

Lennie's first division Middlesbrough were drawn away at Ninian Park on January 8th, 1994 for a first round tie. The game finished 2 - 2 with Middlesbrough, a division above City looking good to win the home replay at 'boro's old ground Ayresome Park.

Cardiff shocked their hosts when Phil Stant scored in the first half, then a fresh faced young Irishman, making his debut for Lennie Lawrence's Middlesbrough scored an equaliser to take the game into extra time. Graham Kavanagh was the young lads name, whatever happened to him?

It was to be City's night though when Nathan Blake scored the winner and City won 2 - 1 AET.

In the next round Nathan Blake scored again as City took the scalp of Premiership Man City before going out at home to Luton Town in round 5, a club lennie went on to manage later in his career.

Lennie has only once been knocked out the cup by non league opposition, that when the Plymouth Argyle side managed by Malcolm Allison with Lawrence his assistant were beaten by Worcester City over 20 years ago.
