Loan watch

Difficult to know where to start when three loaned players all score in the league so we'll give pride of place to Elvis Menayese this week. Elvis is an Academy player at City, as is Jamie Bird, and the pair of them are having a spell at Barry Town United in the Welsh Leagues. It's not easy to monitor their progress but it seems to be going well for them and Elvis popped up with his first goal yesterday in a 1-1 draw at Goytre.

Tom Adeyemi scored his first goal for Leeds yesterday in a 2-1 win at Derby while Adam le Fondre followed his two assists in the cup win over Barnet by getting the winner for Wolves against Charlton. Joe Lewis was on the bench for Fulham as he started his loan spell there.

In League 1, Kadeem Harris got 90 minutes for Barnsley in their disappointing 3-0 defeat at Rochdale while Deji Oshilaja scored with a header for Gillingham in their 1-1 draw at Peterborough. In League 2, David Tutonda's York lost 2-1 at home to Mansfield for whom former City striker Matt Green scored his first goals since 2013. Filip Kiss chipped in with an assist today as Haugesund won 3-1 in Norway.

Other former players had a good weekend too. Danny Johnson got his first National League goals for Gateshead, Luke Coulson and Jon Parkin also scored in wins for their teams in the lower leagues. Jo Inge Berget scored today in the league and his goals (and an Eikrem assist) in the first leg helped Malmo to overcome Celtic this week and qualify for the Champions League group stages. They drew Real Madrid and PSG, let's hope they have more luck with the draw in the knock-out stages.

Can't finish without mentioning Josh Yorwerth, 120 minutes for him as Ipswich beat Doncaster 4-1 in the cup. An interesting quote from him this week about how he is benefiting from working with senior players at Ipswich, "Sometimes you feel nervous going into training, such are the high standards. I never got that at Cardiff." Ipswich drew Man United away in the next round, hopefully Mick McCarthy will keep faith with his youngsters and give Josh a game there too.
