Loan watch

C:WindowsTempphp66C4.tmpTwas ever thus. The fans turn up in hope and expectation only for their team to fall short. The champagne lies unopened, another chance has gone. "Maybe tomorrow" they say bravely but deep down they worry that tomorrow will never come, that disappointment and heartache are their lot. So it was for the supporters of Lierse SK on Friday as they welcomed their homecoming hero, Etien Velikonja, who was starting his second loan spell at the club. Some of the 4,193 fans had been queuing since before kick off and it was looking good as Velikonja got a 28th minute equaliser but it tailed off and Lierse ended up losing 2-1. It just goes to show that you can't have your cake and eat it, even in Belgium.

A quiet week otherwise. Kadeem Harris made two appearances for Barnsley, in a 2-1 midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy win and as a lively sub in their 2-1 home loss to Shrewsbury. David Tutonda returned to Newport with York City and played 78 minutes in York's 3-0 win. Deji Oshilaja missed Gillingham's win with a knee injury.

Elvis Menayese got a hat-trick in Barry's 6-0 League Cup win yesterday (43 year old Damon Searle also scored). Elvis and Jamie Bird seem to have an unusual clause in their loan deal at Barry, they have to act as ballboys for our DVP team on a Monday. I'm sure KTC and Javi Guerra didn't have to do that last season, maybe my memory's playing tricks on me.

No games for our other loaned players this week but Rhys Healey has already started training at Dundee and is impressing manager Paul Hartley. A great chance for Rhys to push on now, he's scored five goals in his last three games for our u-21s while showing some good skill, physical strength, movement and work rate. The best of luck to him up there.

Of our former players it's been another good week for Jo Inge Berget. Two full games for Norway, two wins and two good goals for him today against Croatia as Norway move into a qualification place.

Wales Online report that in total Cardiff have 14 players out on loan.
