Loan watch

I wouldn't know what it's like to score a goal at a high level (or any level come to that) but I imagine it's as much of a buzz as you can get as a footballer. Surely though, if you were to score in every single game you play in, as Etien Velikonja does, then it would start to get boring after a while? If he needs a new challenge then maybe he could start playing in defence, that's where Lierse's problems seem to lie as they lost 4-2 last night despite two equalisers from Velikonja.

All that Kadeem Harris seems to be lacking at the moment is a goal. He's running into the kind of form that he has consistently shown at DVP level and showed at Brentford on loan in 2013. After an afternoon tormenting the Doncaster defence he still managed to end up on the losing side as Barnsley lost 2-1 to a late goal. Manager Lee Johnson said "I thought Kadeem was excellent, very bright, very sharp. He showed what he is about. The poor kid, how he's not scored or set up a goal I don't know. He's a fantastic player and it will come."

A 2-0 defeat of Barnet gave Semi Ajayi his first clean sheet and first victory as an AFC Wimbledon player. An interesting move this one, hopefully it will be as successful as Deji Oshilaja's spell there last season. Ajayi looks like a quality player but lacks both first team experience and a physical presence that a man of his size should have. He also seems vulnerable to losses of concentration but a spell of League 2 action under a good manager such as Neal Ardley should tick all those boxes.

A goal in the week for Adam le Fondre as Wolves won 3-0 at Fulham and the same result yesterday against Huddersfield. He's happy that his partnership with Benik Afobe is starting to click. An assist for Eoin Doyle as he came off the bench in a 3-1 defeat for Preston at Sheffield Wednesday. Rhys Healey made another late appearance for Dundee in their home win but Tom Adeyemi, David Tutonda and Joe Lewis didn't come on in their games. Filip Kiss played the 90 minutes, and picked up a yellow card, in Haugesund's home defeat in Norway while Deji Oshilaja is still injured, but very close to a comeback, for Gillingham.

Among our former players, it's both congratulations and commiserations to Danny Johnson (it would be a long visit to Clinton's trying to find a card for that occasion). Danny spent last season with us and is now at Gateshead in the National League. He's been selected in the latest England C squad (which is open to non-league players) but has had to pull out due to an injury he picked up last month while scoring against Eastleigh. Loan Watch likes Danny, he's a limited player but appears very keen to learn and has a childlike enthusiasm for the game. Lets hope he recovers soon and plays his way into the next squad.

Luke Coulson can't be far off that squad himself. He scored again yesterday as Oxford City won 4-0 at Chelmsford in the National League South to move them into second place. He also writes a weekly column for the Oxford Mail but that's no big deal, any idiot could write a football article once a week. Goals elsewhere for Ross McCormack and Matt Green while Steve MacLean and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas each got two, the latter's included a winner in injury time for QPR as they beat Bolton 4-3.
